A lil of this, a lil of that with a mature, 30ish flair...

For those of you, like me, are a product of the hip-hop generation, here is an interesting column about what it means to be "industry" http://www.allhiphop.com/editorial/?ID=320.

The author's name is Serius Jones and I followed him since Fight Klub was airing on MTV. He puts an intelluctual spin on a culture many of us are trying to venture into.

World So Cold...

In this game of life, simply turning on the t.v. can be so depressing. Living within close proximity of Philadelphia, it is hard not to hear the staggering rate of black on black crime... They are averaging 1.5 murders per day. The average American family consists of 2.5 children per household. So I guess in Philly, similiar to China, the average family will consist of 1 child per family if these statistics continue. Who woulda ever thought that a community as large and closenit as the Amish community would suffer alarming demise. I do believe people are people, regardless of race, creed, economic status or location.

Gangs are taking over most urban areas countrywide.

Political heads are quitting and being accused of unmentionable crimes.

The rich get richer; while the poor get poorer.

The more success we become as a country, the more we lose focus of what America stands for.

Whatever happened the the pursuit of happiness?

Whitney and Bobby...

Media whores...Attention seekers, publicity stunts? With the eye of the world awaiting the demise of the cultures most celebrated, critized couple, why don't we pray for the salvation of marriage?

Yes, it is most embarrasing to see our beloved childhood stars display their ignorace for all to see. But IMO, that is just a cry for help. We've laughed at (and with) the Browns' and felt sympathy for dear ole Bobbi Cristina. We prayed for Whitney and see signs of recovery. We anticipate her return to the music scene, whether it's to see if she still has it or for comic relief. She's a music mogul's dream; with 175x's platinum, no writing or publishing rights, who wouldn't try and keep her from her vice(Mr. Houston) to resurrect her career? We all know the best music is created when one is facing demons or truly in love. I'm assuming her record will be faboulous, provided it comes out. Her voice maybe a little different, but the both the pleasure and pain would most definitely shine thru.

It is all to a familiar scenario played out in all of America; families breaking up, especially in the Black community. This Hollywood couple has out lasted many celebrity marriages, both Black and White. Yes, it is a slap in the face for Whitney that her 'king of R&B' has leaned on the shoulder of his once jezebel. But isn't it customary for us to rely on friends for support when our back is against the wall? While Superhead may have not been the best choice of couch to sleep on, it is time she repaid Whit for the money she'd borrowed years ago. While it's no secret, hell, she wrote a book detailing tryst she's had with many a celebrity, Bobby may have been one of her favorites. Since we all know Bobby wasn't generating any new money, any money previously spent on Karrine was from Whit's stash. She profitted from her book, Confessions of a Video Vixen, so she can afford to spend some on 'charity'.

Let's now hold hands and sing the chorus to "We Shall Overcome" and pray Whit and Bobby make amends. Heaven only knows who else could handle their foolishness. They are more powerful together, ala Hillary and William Clinton, and if she can forgive her husband nationally, I think there's hope for the Brown's. Some people believe she'd be much better without him, but anyone knows a recovering addict becomes sick without their medicine, and Bobby is the reliever to Whit's problems.

If DMX's wife can stick by his side, there is hope. I've never seen a crack couple completly separate (in my hood), anyways. The damage has already been done, lets kiss and make up...

What is love really? Is it tangible? Can you find it or does it find you? I can see the look of love in someones eyes, hear it in their thoughts, taste it in my mouth, feel it in their touch, smell it in their sweet voice.

So I'm new to this blogging world. Well sort of, I've been reading other blogs religiously and decided to give this thing a shot. But I was a little undecided in which path to take it... I am a product of the hip-hop generation, not to be confused with an 80's baby. The Other Side Of 29 (TSOS) is a metaphor for the thirty and over crowd. So I enjoy reading gossip sites and their ranting and ravings of the hottest things in the industry and club scenes. But my 70's upbrings draws me to a more mature style of growing... Walk with me in this path of life, down this street called the world wide web. While this culture is perpetuated by pseudonyms and photoshopped images, I most truly enjoy the blogs that are written from within ones soul. Not cut and pasted, watered down versions of someone's world that many of us will never enter.

I reserve the utmost respect for those of us who can dig deep into our complex existences and share gratifying and embarassing experiences of our lives... Living in a post-Katrina/9-11 world, it is more than heartening to see so many of us continue to push forward in a world that can be so cold.

Now let the fun begin!

What is love really?

Post reply.
